Standing along Franklin Boulevard on Cleveland's west side, Franklin Castle has become one of the city's most mysterious—and infamous—landmarks.
Originally known as the Tiedemann House, the imposing stone mansion was built in the early 1880s for German immigrant and Cleveland businessman Hannes Tiedemann. More than a century later, its towers, stone façade and unusual history have helped make it a Cleveland legend.
By the 1960s and '70s, stories of strange noises, hidden rooms, unexplained sightings and restless spirits had transformed the house into what generations of Clevelanders came to know as Franklin Castle.
